Ingredient Notes

- All-purpose flour

Charlotte’s Tips for Apple Scones

- Keep your butter cold for extra flakiness.
- Don’t overmix the dough.
- Cut apples small so they bake evenly.
- Glaze the scones once they have cooled to avoid melting.
Recipe Variations
- Swap apples for pears and ginger for a different fall flavor.
- Add chopped pecans or walnuts for crunch
- Use apple pie spice instead of cinnamon
- Top with coarse sugar instead of glaze for a rustic finish
- You can also try a maple cinnamon glaze instead of vanilla, just substitute maple extract.
Recipe Substitutions
- Use half-and-half instead of heavy cream
- Sub buttermilk for cream if you don’t have it on hand.
- Try maple extract in place of vanilla in the scones for a different flavor.
Storage Tips
Apple scones are best the day they’re baked, but can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for 2 days. To freeze, skip the glaze and store in a freezer bag for up to 2 months. Thaw and warm before serving, then glaze if desired.
